Upper Class E Traffic Management (ETM) Research Transition Team (RTT) Kickoff Meeting
April 9, 2021

The Upper Class E Traffic Management (ETM) Research Transition Team (RTT) members from NASA and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) held a virtual kickoff meeting on March 23, 2021. The RTT provides a structured forum for researchers and implementers to constructively work together on a continuing basis, helping to focus the research that will enable the implementation of NextGen air navigation services concepts. The RTT also provides a forum for all NASA and FAA stakeholders to be included in the planning and conduct of RTT research, and utilization of its outcomes. The kick-off meeting topics included briefings on the ETM activities accomplished thus far, such as two 2019 tabletop exercises and ETM community discussions, and the Upper Class E cooperative operations concept analysis and simulations effort. The next RTT meeting is planned for April 2021.

UAM X3 Simulation Report Submitted to Industry Partners
April 9, 2021

The Urban Air Mobility (UAM) subproject (within the Air Traffic Management Exploration (ATM-X) project) conducted the “X3” series of simulations between May-December 2020, in collaboration with the Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) project’s National Campaign (NC) subproject. The X3 simulations included the NC Developmental Test (NC-DT) airspace partners, in collaboration with NC’s Airspace Test Infrastructure (ATI) team, which provided the data collection capabilities. Nine of the eleven NC-DT airspace partners participated in at least one X3 data collection activity. In February, X3 simulation data analysis was completed and provided to industry partners. A final report on the X3 simulation results is now complete, co-authored by the UAM and NC subprojects, and describing the tests, scenarios, airspace and results. This final report will be published as a NASA Technical Memorandum, distributed to all the partners who participated in X3 simulations, and marks the completion of the milestone outlined in the agreement with the industry partners.
