North Texas Research Station Hosts American Airlines' DFW Operations Managers
September 20, 2017
On September 15, 2017, North Texas Research Station (NTX) personnel demonstrated Airspace Technology Demonstration 2 (ATD-2) capabilities to Matt Eggers, Managing Director Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) Hub Control Center for American Airlines; John Molitor, American Airlines Operations Manager; Cesar Rodriguez, Envoy Operations Manager; and the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA’s) Greg Juro, Traffic Management Officer D10 Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON). The demonstration showcased the developmental ATD-2 Integrated Arrival/Departure/Surface (IADS) system, currently undergoing Operational Shadow Evaluations at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (Charlotte, NC), as well as a second ATD-2 IADS system using DFW International Airport adaptation and live data. Versions of these latter displays will be deployed to the DFW air traffic control towers and D10 TRACON before the end of the calendar year, and eventually to DFW Airport operations facilities. The American Airlines representatives expressed interest in utilizing a DFW repeater display in the new virtual ramp tower that they will soon open at DFW airport, and offered to create an observer position for NASA. These ATD-2 IADS system deployments and collaborations with D10/DFW Field Demo Partners are in support of ATD-2 Phase 3 which extends the IADS concept and technologies to the metroplex (i.e., multiple airport) environment.
