ATD-2 Briefing to NextGen Advisory Committee Subcommittee
January 19, 2017
On January 12, 2017, NASA provided an Airspace Technology Demonstration-2 (ATD-2) update to the FAA's NextGen Advisory Committee Subcommittee (NACSC) at their monthly meeting held in Washington, DC. The NextGen Advisory Committee (NAC) provides a venue where the FAA can solicit a consensus-based set of recommendations on issues that are critical to the successful implementation of NextGen. It is also a forum to obtain a commitment of resources and/or synchronized planning between government and industry. The NACSC supports the NAC and is comprised of FAA and aviation industry representatives with broad knowledge and expertise related to the implementation of NextGen. This NACSC meeting included remarks from FAA Deputy Administrator (Acting) Victoria Wassmer. Under ATD-2, NASA is collaborating with the FAA and industry to conduct a field demonstration of surface departure metering, in response to a recommendation from the NAC. The ATD-2 briefing detailed past accomplishments, featured the concept animation video, and also highlighted ATD-2 partnerships and stakeholder engagement activities. Several NACSC members expressed their support for ATD-2, and interest in results from the field demonstration. (POC: Jane Thipphavong)
