ATD-2 demonstration to Collaborative Decision Making (CDM) Flow Evaluation Team (FET)
January 12, 2017

On January 5, 2017, NASA provided a demonstration of the Airspace Technology Demonstration-2 (ATD-2) system to the Collaborative Decision Making (CDM) Flow Evaluation Team (FET) at NASA's ATD-2 laboratory located at the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport (CLT). CDM is a joint government/industry initiative aimed at improving air traffic flow management through increased information exchange among aviation community stakeholders. The FET is a CDM sub-team that strives to increase system efficiency by reducing route coordination time and enhancing system planning through the creation of common situational awareness of potential route alternatives, procedures, and coordination processes. The FET requested the ATD-2 lab visit in conjunction with a regular quarterly meeting. The ATD-2 team presented a system overview, describing the goals, benefits, and tools developed for use across the various user groups from Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) personnel to ramp managers and controllers. A description of the data exchange and integration activities and surface modeling, scheduling and metering descriptions were provided. The FET expressed interest in the results of the field demonstrations. (POC: Al Capps)
