NAS Flow Advisory Manager Undergoes First Evaluation at North Texas Research Station
November 16, 2016
Traffic management coordinators from Fort Worth Air Route Traffic Control Center (ARTCC) evaluated the National Airspace System (NAS) Flow Advisory Manager (NFAM) at the NASA North Texas Research Station (NTX) (Fort Worth, Texas). Thirteen participants provided feedback in seven sessions from November 8-11, 2016. Mosaic ATM is developing and evaluating the software tool under a Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) contract. The NFAM concept is based on the Generalized Brownian Motion (GBM) model algorithms that provide time-varying demand, capacity, and uncertainty in demand and capacity assessments. NFAM is a candidate contributor to the FAA's overall Advanced Methods project and Collaborative Air Traffic Management (CATM) under Work Package 5 (WP5). The tool provides a predictive capability to allow air traffic managers to visualize the impact of existing and proposed traffic management initiatives, up to several hours in advance. A second evaluation of NFAM will occur at NTX in March 2017. (POC: Paul Borchers)
Industry Day: SimLabs III Contract
November 16, 2016
The Aerospace Simulation Branch (code AFS) hosted an Industry Day on November 16, 2016, for potential bidders on the SimLabs III contract. This contract supports the simulation and development work for the Branch. Industry Day included presentations by NASA procurement staff and simulation experts from the Branch, and tours of the SimLabs facilities, which include the Vertical Motion Simulator (VMS), FutureFlight Central (FFC), the Crew-Vehicle Simulation Research Facility (CVSRF).
