UAS Project Site Visit: Northern Plains Unmanned Aircraft Systems Test Site (North Dakota)
July 13, 2016

The Unmanned Aerial Systems in the National Airspace System (UAS/NAS) project team members visited the North Dakota UAS test site on June 21, 2016. Team members met with the Northern Plains UAS Test Site (NP UAS TS) executive director, and the directors of research and development, safety, operations, and business and program management. The team members gained awareness of the test site's capabilities, including vehicles, visualization and data collection tools, and an ATC training facility and a 360-degree air traffic control tower simulator. The facilities are currently used for training purposes, and the site boasts the largest collegiate training program in the world. The NASA team has interest in the potential for collaboration with the NP UAS TS as a test environment through the UAS/NAS project's live-virtual-constructive distributed environment (LVC-DE).
