KARI/NASA Workshop participants

Aviation Systems Division researchers Drs. Yoon Jung, Zhifan Zhu, and Hanbong Lee participated in a two-day workshop with the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (Daejeon, South Korea) April 5-6, 2016. The KARI and NASA teams had very productive meetings to define their collaboration plans for the second year of the Space Act Agreement between the two organizations. NASA's presentations on the Surface Operations Simulator and Scheduler (SOSS) model validation and scheduler-taxi prediction work were very well-received. Following the workshop, the KARI team hosted a tour of Incheon Airport for the NASA visitors, where they visited ramp and air traffic control towers. In the coming months, the two teams will prepare for another technical interchange meeting in Fall 2016, at NASA Ames Research Center. (POC: Yoon Jung)

NRA update: Accelerating ATM into the Cloud
April 14, 2016

On April 4, 2016, the Mosaic ATM team presented their progress and plans for year two of their NASA Research Announcement (NRA) work, "Accelerating ATM Into The Cloud." Mosaic demonstrated their prototype software that would accelerate the ability of the Shadow Mode Assessment using Realistic Technologies for the National Airspace System (SMART-NAS) Testbed to identify and connect to specific air traffic management (ATM) software components using cloud services. The demonstration included the simulation user interface, or dashboard, that enables a query of specific ATM components and then ensures that all other necessary components are also made available. A method to query the attributes of each component was also demonstrated. A discussion of securely working with the cloud was also presented by Harris Corporation. (POC: William Chan)
