Ames subproject leads attend Collaborative Decision-Making (CDM) Spring Meeting
April 2, 2015
Kapil Sheth (ATD-3 planning co-lead), Shawn Engelland (ATD-2 lead), Nancy Smith and Paul Lee (SMART NAS, NY TBO leads) attended the CDM meeting March 24-25, 2015 in Orlando, Florida. The meeting was held at JetBlue Airlines' training facility near the Orlando International Airport. On the first day, where presentations were made to all attendees, discussions were held on new weather capabilities, Strategic Flow Management Application (SFMA, Work Package 5), Surface Data Elements, and handling of traffic during the Chicago Center fire last year. On the second day, during which attendees were split into groups, each of the sub-teams presented progress on their tasking. There were three main take-away messages. First, the Collaborative Convective Forecast Product (CCFP) will be a year-round product and the new Collaborative Aviation Weather Statement (CAWS) will be available this summer. Second, the Dynamic Weather Routing concept developed at NASA Ames Research Center, will be a part of the SFMA work for proposing new routes. Last, the FAA's AirBorne ReRouting (ABRR) and Pre-Departure ReRouting (PDRR) functionality will be deployed in the Traffic Flow Management System (TFMS) before April 2015 but will not be available until fall 2015.
