The Vertical Motion Simulator

On Friday morning, Shuttle Endeavor is scheduled to perform low-level flyovers above Northern California atop NASA's 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft on its way to its new home at the California Science Center. NASA Ames Research Center will host a flyover viewing and celebration of the Center's numerous contributions to the Shuttle Program, including astronaut training in the Vertical Motion Simulator (VMS). VMS Lab Manager, Steven Beard, and retired astronaut, Bo Bobko, spoke with ABC 7 News about how the VMS was used to train astronauts to perform shuttle landings.
