BIOGRAPHY
Estela Buchmann

Estela Hernandez Buchmann is currently the Aviation Systems Division Software Assurance Lead and serves as the SimLabs FutureFlight Central (FFC) Facility Manager. She earned an Aeronautical Engineering from California Polytechnic State University in 1995 and earned her master’s degree in Engineering Management from Santa Clara University in 2003.

Estela came to NASA Ames Research Center as an intern. Upon obtaining her degree she worked briefly as a defense contractor. Estela returned to NASA Ames SimLabs as a support contractor in 1996. Serving as a Lead Simulation Engineer on the Vertical Motion Simulator, she led piloted simulations on rotorcraft, fixed wing, tiltrotor, vertical take-off and landing vehicles, and Space Shuttle simulations from 1996-2011. Estela served as the contractor lead for NASA’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) in the National Airspace System (NAS) Integrated Test & Evaluation (IT&E) subproject. Estela became a civil servant in 2018, after 22 years of being a SimLabs contractor.
