2016 NASA Honor Awards

The honorees received their awards at a special ceremony on July 26, 2016 at Ames Research Center, presented by Dr. Eugene Tu, Ames Center Director



Scott Reardon accepts his award at the NASA Honor Awards ceremony.
Scott E. Reardon received an Early Career Achievement Medal for exceptional and groundbreaking contributions to the science of motion flight simulation, directly benefitting NASA Aeronautics research and the entire simulation community.




Confesor Santiago accepts his award at the NASA Honor Awards ceremony.
Confesor Santiago received an Exceptional Achievement Medal for exceptional leadership in the national effort to safely integrate unmanned aircraft into routine civil airspace operations.




Kevin Witzberger accepts his award at the NASA Honor Awards ceremony.
Kevin E. Witzberger received an Exceptional Achievement Medal for exemplary planning and execution of the Terminal Sequencing and Spacing Operational Integration Assessment.




Kevin Witzberger accepts the group award on behalf of the OIA Team at the NASA Honor Awards ceremony.
The Operational Integration Assessment (OIA) Team received a group achievement award for designing, developing, and conducting a complex human-in-the-loop simulation to test NASA's Terminal Sequencing and Spacing technology in an operational environment.

The team included representatives from NASA Ames Research Center (Kevin Carbajal, Fay Chinn, Ronald Johnson, Mirna Johnson, Alan Lee, Joey Mercer, Thomas Prevot, John Robinson, Shivanjli Sharma, Jane Thipphavong, Kevin Witzberger, Minghong Wu), GTI Federal (Matt Ma), Millenium Engineering & Integration Co. (Andrew Ging), Raytheon (Craig Ferguson, Fred Rothenhofer), San Jose State University Foundation, Inc. (Nancy Bienert, Abhay Borade, Connie Brasil, Todd Callantine, Tamsyn Edwards, Conrad Gabriel, Albert Globus, Vimmy Gujral, Kimberly Jobe, Joshua Kraut, Lynne Martin, Faisal Omar), Science Application International Corporation (Joseph Cisek, Matthew Gregory, Melody Lin, Jimmy Nguyen), and University of California Santa Cruz (Leonard Bagasol, Xiaoliang Chen, Jinn-Hwei Cheng, Michael Downs, Yu Du, Hai Ou-Yang, Lindsay Sturre, and Easter Wang).




Carl Russell accepts the group award on behalf of the UAV Multicopter Wind Tunnel Test Team at the NASA Honor Aawards ceremony.
The UAV Multicopter Wind Tunnel Test Team received a group achievement award for planning, conducting, and reporting the first aeroperformance and acoustics wind tunnel test of an emerging and exciting class of small unmanned aerial vehicles.

The team included representatives from NASA Ames Research Center (Natasha Barbely, Vincent Derilo, Sarah Dsouza, Daniel Gundo, Jeffrey Homola, Corey Ippolito, Jaewoo Jung, Robert Komienko, Roxana Rodriguez, Carl Russell, Colin Theodore, Gina Willink), Army AFDD (Brian Chan, Bruce Gesek, Nili Gold, Sameera Gunatileka, Samuel Huang, Stephen Nance, William Peneff), Department of Energy (Miranda McCoy), Millennium Engineering & Integration Co. (Dominique Kraft), San Jose State University Foundation, Inc. (Ashley Gomez, Joshua Kraut, Cynthia Wolter), Science & Technology Corp. Joey Rios accepts the group award on behalf of the UTM Build One Software Team at the NASA Honor Awards ceremony.
The UTM Build One Software Team received a group achievement award for exceptional technology development that significantly contributes to the creation of a new nationwide air traffic management system for small unmanned vehicles.

The team included representatives from NASA Ames Research Center (Daniel Mulfinger, Thomas Prevot, Joseph Rios), ASRC Research & Technology Solutions (George Lawton, Priya Venkatesan, Dominic Wong), San Jose State University Foundation, Inc. (Vernol Battiste, Quang Dao), and SGT, Inc. (David Smith, Irene Smith, Leo Wang).




Christine Clark and Leslye Mogford accepts the group award on behalf of the UTM Convention Planning Team at the NASA Honor Awards ceremony.
The UTM Convention Planning Team received a group achievement award for exceptional planning of the UTM Convention at Ames Research Center, July 28-30, 2015 with 1000 attendees to explore the challenges of managing Unmanned Aerial Systems.
